Two Ways to Keep the Spring Heat OUTSIDE of Your Home

Keeping the spring heat at bay with your heating and air conditioning services.

The spring heat can be no joke, especially when you’ve barely just left winter behind and haven’t prepped your home’s heating and air conditioning system for the warmer temps. Since the full-on summer heat hasn’t hit yet, you probably don’t want to blast your AC. However, it makes sense to start looking for more of a mix of options to keep the heat out of your home. The following tips can help.

Tip #1: Use a Programmable Thermostat

An energy-efficient, programmable thermostat can make all the difference in keeping the hot air out of your home. One popular option would be to program the thermostat to 75 degrees during the hours that you’re home and set it to 80 degrees while you’re away. Set it to as cool as you need it at night so that you sleep comfortably.

Tip #2: Make Adjustments to In-Home Accessories

There are several things you can do to ensure your home stays cool during the approaching spring heat:

  • Close your drapes and blinds during the day so you don’t stir up a greenhouse effect that causes heat to enter the room and stay there. Closed curtains block out a huge amount of heat.
  • Run appliances like your dishwasher and washer/dryers at night because they generate a lot of heat.
  • Use the oven and stove as little as possible so that they don’t heat up the house. Prep your meals in advance so that you simply have to reheat them in a microwave or instant pot.
