Can a geothermal system make your business a better global citizen?
Do commercial HVAC services include geothermal systems? You bet! They’re a great alternative to traditional heating and cooling, and they’re better for the environment. Let’s take a look at what you need to know.
A geo (meaning earth) thermal (meaning heat) system uses heat pumps to transfer heat from one area to another using water-based heat pumps and electricity.
The heat source for a geothermal system includes a piping system, known as a loop, and a heat pump. The heat pump is the connector between the earth, where water gets heated, and the HVAC system in your building. Water circulates through the loop where the earth heats it up. The system uses electricity to take the heat from the water and push it through the heat pump. This creates warm air that gets circulated through your building.
In the summer the system works in reverse. It takes the warm air from inside your building and transfers it back underground. In the summer, the earth around the loop is much cooler than the air at your business. The earth cools the water, which is then pumped back up to create the cold air that blows into the building.
A geothermal system is significantly more efficient and much better for the environment than a fuel-burning heating system or an air conditioning system that uses electricity and a refrigerant. Not only can it be up to 400% more efficient, but it will help you be a better global citizen while it helps out your bottom line.
